The year was 1919 when a young boy by the name of Myron H Premus obtained his first amateur radio license at the age of sixteen.  His first call letters were 8AHQ.  Back in those days, New York State was in the eighth call district.

Through the years, Mike had a number of different calls after 8AHQ, they were 8MU, W8MLR, W2PQI, W2PWK, and in 1947 applied for and received W2OY.  Mike held this call for thirty years until he became a silent key in 1967.

Recently researching the archives, The Buffalo Kilowatt Bookends home office discovered two rare QSL cards from Mike when he held the W8MLR call sign.  The cards date back to March 7, 1938, and December 28, 1940.

NOTE:  W8VCI became W2VCI when New York was changed to the second call district.  Dex, W2VCI is still very active on HF and VHF,  operating from Tonawanda, NY, a suburb of Buffalo.
