A well known AM voice from three land was W3DYY. His station included some familiar pieces of equipment back in those days. WRL's Globe Scout transmitter along with the WRL 755 VFO, the Heathkit DX100 transmitter, Hallicrafter receiver, and the Gonset 2 Meter Communicator receiver/transmitter.
On the top shelf between the Gonset Communicator and the WRL 755 VFO, is the C-D-R Rotator Model AR-2, which most hams used to turn their beam back in those days. Of course the microphone that he used was the Astatic JT-30, an inexpensive microphone that sounded great on the air, and only cost $9.50. By the way let's not overlook the two Shure 710 mikes, one on top of the Gonset and the other on top of the DX100.
It is clear that W3DYY enjoyed collecting QSL cards obtained from his many contacts, if you look carefully you will find a rare QSL card from W2OY.

W3DYY circa 1960
One other comment. If you go back to the 1950's, you might think that you have seen W3DYY somewhere before. Apparently he was related to Jeff Chandler, the well known movie actor. Rumor has it that they were cousins.
