After an almost five month summer hiatus from being active on the airwaves, it was reported by The Bookend home office, that the Buffalo Kilowatt Bookends will soon be returning to the amateur bands for another season of activity.

Each year at the start of autumn, The Bookends ready their powerful AM transmitters for operation in Bookend Country, usually at the low end of the 75 meter phone band between 3810 kHz and 3830 kHz.

Once they begin operating, there will be the usual complaints from the ssb cast of characters who operate in and around Bookend Country.  Much of their grumbling will center around the fact that they think that AM operation does not belong in "their" part of the band.

Now you might wonder, who are these ssb operators who seem to utter harsh guttural shouts of displeasure when the Buffalo Kilowatt Bookends make their presence known in Bookend Country.   Here is the official list of the cast of characters as compiled by The Bookend home office.

Official SSB Cast of Characters

KM1A - "Mr. Double Double"  sometimes known as  "Mr. Know It All"

VA3YX - "Rickshaw Ray"  sometimes known as  "Mr. Wannabe"

VE3VKH - sometimes known as "VA3YX" (Why is he hiding behind two calls?)

K2ZKA - "Mr. Bacha Galoop"  sometimes known as  "The Organ Grinder Man"

WB2MAI - "Deacon Bill"

WA1YWH - "Mr. Foul Mouth"  sometimes known as  "Potty Mouth Pat"

K2IXJ - "Mr. Johnny Shinenolan"   sometimes known as  "Popeye"

K2MUB - "Mr. That's Right!"

N3ZRX - "Junior Operator Ted"

The cast of players identified here are usually lurking about in Bookend Country every morning, afternoon, and evening, (would you believe!) seven days a week.  It seems that they need to read "The Amateur's Code" and give special attention to rule number five, which can be found in the "Radio Amateurs Handbook."

The Buffalo Kilowatt Bookend stations, K2VXV (Joe) and W2KBW (Tom), known as the Northern Half and the Southern Half of the Buffalo Kilowatt Bookends respectively, are looking forward to a new season of AM activity in Bookend Country.  Look for them soon on a frequency near you.
